Charnock Richard Res 4

Garstang Res 0

Garstang travelled to Charnock looking to maintain their 100% winning start but with 3 key players being promoted to Bailey’s 1st team squad, it was always going to be a big challenge and so it proved.

Charnock started the game like a whirlwind, never giving Garstang a chance to settle and were soon ahead after four minutes.

The Garstang defence failed to make a simple clearance from a corner and gifted the ball straight to a Charnock player in the six yard box, who took full advantage of the gift.

The goal gave Garstang a kick and soon they started to match Charnock’s work rate with Turner and Crooks excellent in the Garstang midfield engine room.

Sutcliff whipped in a good ball which was taken off Panepinto’s toes by a defender but the loose ball was fired towards the Charnock goal and ricocheted off the side of the post.

Roberts and Panepinto were linking up well and Roberts was unlucky when clean through on goal, saw his shot well saved by the on rushing keeper.

There was something in the game for Garstang if they maintained their work rate and effort.

As they approached the half time whistle, the normally excellent Matichechia gifted a goal to Charnock by hitting a short pass back towards the debutant Hesketh but the pass went straight to a Charnock forward who said thank you very much and tapped the ball into the net.

HT 2:0 to Charnock.

The second half was a carbon copy of the first, Charnock started well and Hesketh had to make a couple of good saves.

Garstang then came back into the game, Panepinto hit a volley over the bar, the newly introduced Shepherd had a long range shot well saved and further shots tested the Charnock keeper with another one coming back off the post.

Alas this was not going to be Garstang’s day as two further lapses of concentration allowed Charnock to score a further two late goals.

Final result Charnock 4 Garstang 0.

Overall a disappointing result but the team battled.

Shepherd looked sharp when he came on for the last 25 mins and with further game time will become an asset to the squad.

Special thanks to the official who had an excellent game allowing the game to flow where possible.
