LEP Sunday League Division 1 – Brigg 2, Wyresdale Rangers 5
After two successive promotions, Wyresdale Rangers Football Club have been finding life in division one tough going but finally gained a win at the fourth attempt. The Scortonians travelled to Penwortham hoping to finally end a run of five defeats, two of which coming in the respective cup competitions.
The first goal came in fortunate circumstances when Andrew Norris’ cross come shot was bundled home by the hapless defender. With Wyre in control, it took a quality counter attack to peg them back. A cross from the right was astutely headed into the far corner, off the post and the scores were level.
Wyre hit back. Chris Walker pinged a defence splitting pass into Alex Kershaw who tucked away the opportunity with immaculate ease. The advantage, Norris assisted Kershaw again to make it 1-3.
Brigg fought back as the topsy-turvy contest continued. Barry Pryce was the hero taking the score to 2-3 at half time. The second half saw chance after chance for Wyre but when, after a ten pass move, Simon Williamson converted, the game looked over at 2-4.
This was easily helped with the rashness of Pryce who hacked down Williamson with an aggressive two footed challenge and he saw red. Wyre added one further goal, Rick Chamberlain slotting home to register a first three points of the season.
