Garstang suffered defeat by just seven runs with a below par performance against Fylde at the Riverside.

The league strugglers, were inserted by Michael Walling amidst uncertain weather and were reduced 26-2 with Gareth Jennings taking both wickets.

Paul Willis, (16) and Mike Watkinson, (15) batted well but when both fell, plus the wicket of Joe McMillan, (2), the visitors were in a pickle at 53-5. Jennings, (4-51) collecting the bulk of the wickets.

The game was reduced to 34 overs and Fylde were 124 all out.

Garstang lost skipper Walling, (0) to the sixth ball of the reply before Allan Cook and Mark Winstanley added 30 for the second wicket. But Sam Jennings ousted Winstanley, (5) and Ian Walling, (4) to leave the hosts 42-3.

Cook fell, lbw for 41 and a further two quick wickets followed with Garstang at 67-6.

Andrew Fletcher with Dave Whalley led the fight back, the competent duo added 32 precious runs. This was until Fletcher was run out for 27 as the rain returned with Garstang 99-7.

Jennings struck 5 in an over of 10 with Whalley and when Whalley took 8 off the next three balls, Garstang were 117-8 and set for victory.

But Whalley, (28) 
was caught and Wells was brilliantly caught first ball to send the visitors jubilant after a hard fought encounter, winning by just 7 runs.
