Longridge golfers on tee for more success
The Longridge women’s golf team joined a host of teams from across the county for the Lancashire Ladies’ Golf Association Inter-Club event.
The team finished the tournament in Rochdale in fifth position out of nine qualifying teams.
Team members included Linda Cain, Barbara Ebden, Stella Southworth and Lisa Walling.
Following their success, Longridge’s top golfer Mark Young ran down his Cleveland Srixon Northern Order of Merit campaign with a third place in the “Pendle Witch” played at Clitheroe.
Young played a first round 78, followed by an inspiring second round of 65 to finish one shot behind the winner.
His success came a week after the finals of the Yorkshire Order of Merit at Moortown near Leeds, where he played two level par rounds of 71 in testing conditions to win the event by eight shots.
Meanwhile, Longridge Golf Club’s juniors have been given a boost after a fundraising day to help develop training facilities.
The club hosted a Texas Scramble event for 28 teams made up of the local business community to raise funds to enhance the practice facilities and covered driving range.
Club spokesman Roger Stamp said: “With talented juniors such as James Catlow, Alex Forrest, Macaulay Murgatroyd and Anthony Slater already making their mark in the club, budding players of all ages are already benefiting from the enhanced facilities and the excellent coaching of PGA Professional Stephen Taylor and his coaching team.”
The winning team from the fundraising event was led by the Club Captain Richard Jenkins with the runners-up “The Archangels” consisting of M Padgett, P Graham, R O’Reilly and M Dennison.
