Victory moved them nine points clear of Fulwood and Broughton with five games of the season remaining.

Their win was inspired by Michael Walling who was the leading performer with both bat and ball.

Garstang batted first and made it through their overs with Michael Walling (70) their top scorer.

Coen Oosthuysen made 37 and Michael Wellings 20 as Garstang ended on 180-9.

That was despite the best efforts of Fulwood and Broughton bowler Jon Fenton, who ended with figures of 4-30 from 10 overs.

In reply, Fulwood and Broughton saw their run chase fall 14 runs short with two wickets in hand.

After starring with the bat, Michael Walling then took centre stage with the ball.

Five overs yielded figures of 4-11 from five overs, including the dismissal of Fulwood and Broughton’s top scorer, Matthew Smith, who was out after making 52.

He also accounted for Zakaria Patel (16), Robert Parker (1) and Dominic Jackson (13).

Brother Ian Walling ended with 2-31 as Fenton was unbeaten on 11 and Matthew Rossiter was three not out.

However, the news was not so good for the seconds or thirds, both of whom were beaten.

The seconds lost the reverse fixture by 113 runs after Fulwood and Broughton made 178-6 before bowling out Garstang for 65.

Callum Robinson-Brooks was Fulwood and Broughton’s top scorer with 40 as Muhammad Bilal Liaqat took 3-39 for Garstang.

Arbab Munir did the damage with the ball for Fulwood and Broughton, taking 6-14 as Garstang were all out with one ball of the 27th over left.

As for the thirds, they made 119-6 against Whittingham and Goosnargh, Phil Baxendale top-scoring with 41.

However, Whittingham and Goosnargh wrapped up victory by replying with 120-3.
