Longridge first XI beat Withnell Fold by nine wickets in their Palace Shield Premier Division clash.
Ian Simpson won the toss and elected to bowl first, the opening bowling pair of Matt Greenall and Ian Simpson were left frustrated at not being able to find a wicket in the first 11 overs.
And it was left to Rory McDowell to make the breakthrough for Longridge with the Withnell score on 33. A flurry of wickets then ensued which left Withnell Fold six down with not many runs added to the 33 run opening stand.
Resistance was shown by number four A Grogan along with the lower order until a superb piece of fielding from Daniel Wilkinson Junior saw Grogan run out for 40.
Frustratingly for Longridge they could not get their last bowling bonus point with Withnell unwilling to give their wickets away easily finishing on 95 for 8 off their 45 overs.
Longridge went out to bat chasing a target of 96. Usual opening pair Josh McDowell and John Simpson got Longridge off to the start they expected against a lacklustre bowling attack. The only wicket to fall was Simpson who was clean bowled for 20 off the spin of G Sharples with the score on 84. McDowell, 60 not out, played a fine innings producing shots around the ground to push Longridge over the line in just 16.4 overs with nine wickets in hand.
Longridge’s wickets earlier in the day were shared between, McDowell - who once again finished with impressive figures of 13 Overs, seven maidens, three wickets for 25 runs - Simpson who also picked up three wickets, and the spin of Tom Howarth who picked up one wicket.
