Garstang Ladies Hockey Club will hold their last back to hockey session this week and want to make it a family affair.
The club are inviting junior players to bring a long their parents to take part in their training sessions.
The initiative is part of England Hockey’s national campaign dedicated to boosting player numbers involved with the sport.
For the past six weeks, coaches have held sessions for past players and newcomers at the club’s base at the UCLan Sports Arena in Cottam.
Elaine Danson who recently joined the Back to Hockey sessions said: “I used to really enjoy playing in my youth (20 years ago!) but gave it up due to playing a lot of badminton.
“I´m not playing as much now and was looking for something else.
“I´d been wanting to have another bash at hockey for a while and when I saw B2H advertised I thought I´d better have a go before I get too old!”
Elaine added “Garstang was only club I saw advertising B2H. Garstang are obviously a successful club and are passionate about the sport. The sessions were great because they are informal and friendly. I felt no pressure to be up to a standard to play, it didn’t matter that I couldn’t hit a ball or how unfit I am.”
Amy McCabe who plays for the Ladies thirds joined the Back to Hockey sessions in 2014.
She said: “I wanted to try and improve my skills and to keep up fitness over the summer. I used to live in Garstang and I live close to the training ground so it’s great.
“The members are all really friendly too. I enjoy the different range of training activities and the short games and tactics sessions.
“The club is really friendly and it was great to see so many young faces there as well as some people who have enjoyed hockey in the past and are re-discovering it.”
Garstang’s last session is this Thursday June 11 at 6.30-7.30pm at UCLan Sports Arena, Cottam,
