With a hectic weekend of competition ahead of him, Longridge Golf Club’s Mark Young could have been concerned that his pursuers in the Cleveland Srixon Northern Order of Merit were creeping closer to him.
However, two stunning victories distanced him from his rivals in crushing style.
On Saturday, he won the Wilpshire Trophy with a two round total of 133 with an opening round of 69 followed by a new Wilpshire course record of 64 – five under par. This gave him a five stroke margin of victory.
The following day at Northenden in the inaugural Baskerville Hound competition, Mark fashioned two rounds of level par 71 to win by three shots on a day when periods of torrential rain made conditions particularly difficult.
Mark has now opened a lead of 450 points over his nearest Order of Merit rival.
