Liam Murphy,18, qualified in his first pole position in the Donington Park Race Circuit last weekend, racing in the BRSCC Mazda MX5 Supercup Championship.
In the 8th & final round of the season up and coming motorcar racer Liam qualified on pole position after getting the fastest lap on the last lap of the qualifying session and his first pole position in the championship.
In race 1 on Saturday afternoon Liam made a great start and lead the field round the first corner, he lead for the first lap with the four time ex Mazda MX5 mk1 Champion Tom Roche on his rear bumper, Roche then passed Liam but Liam passed him back two corners later, they then traded places a number of times over the next five laps until on lap six Liam hit the front and kept the place and eventually built a gap of over two seconds to get his first Mazda MX5 Supercup win completing the hat-trick with pole position and fastest lap as well.
In race 2 on Sunday afternoon Liam again got a great start and lead the field of 22 cars around the first corner but this time he managed to break away much sooner and lead Tom Roche the second placed driver by over a second after lap one, he then pushed hard and eventually managed to win by over ten seconds and take another dominant win of the weekend.
A spokesperson from Mazda MX5 Supercup said: “The racing was intense, with so many drivers upping their game for the final race of the season.
Driver of the weekend must go to Liam Murphy for his totally dominant performance in both races, definitely one to watch for the 2015 season.’
Liam finished 4th in his first season in the Mazda MX5 Supercup Championship and is looking to race in the same Championship next season, he would like to thank his Mum & Dad and also C&M Motors at Galgate for all their support throughout the season.
Liam is also looking for any support from potential sponsors and local businesses, who would like to help him try and win the Championship in 2015.
Their name would be displayed on his car, with a very good chance of some television coverage, national magazines and race programmes.
