Garstand 2nds ran out 3-0 winners at previously unbeaten Brookfields in a game between second and third in the Lancashire Women’s Hockey Association Division Two.
The Garstang side were also missing three of their regular defence but, after a brief initial spell of pressure from Brookfields, settled well.
Brookfields’ defence held firm for about 20 minutes but Rachael Roe’s sharp finish at the near post finally broke the deadlock and Garstang ended the half with a 1-0 lead.
The second half saw Brookfields pressing for an equaliser but Garstang’s defence rarely looked in serious trouble and swift, well-placed balls from midfield allowed the forwards to exploit the spaces behind Brookfields defence.
Rolling substitutions kept the forwards full of running and Steph Roe, on her debut for the 2nds, showed some fine attacking play from right-back.
Fiona Dundas found the net from close range at another penalty corner, before Olivia Mason pounced on an attempted clearance to make the final score 3 - 0.
