Kirkby Stephen 8

Garstang 2

Garstang travelled through the wind, rain and hail on Saturday to meet North Division Two league leaders and the most Kirkby Stephen.

The side recorded their fifth loss on the bounce, Kirkby firing home eight goals to take all the points.

Garstang did start well and with some pressure, but against the run of play Kirkby Stephen strolled through Garstang’s defence and scored in the first five minutes. A few minutes later they doubled their scoreline in a similar fashion.

Garstang picked themselves up and earned themselves a penalty corner, Alice Matthews’ strike was saved and Lyndsey Hayes was on hand to pick up the rebound from close range.

Garstang’s determination was soon nullified by Kirkby Stephen’s ability to retain possession well, switch the play, pass quickly and most importantly their competence in Garstang’s Dee. Kirkby Stephen were clinical and put three more goals past Garstang before half-time.

Garstang fought on and capitalised on a disagreement with the officials forcing an error in KS’s D Fran Summers converted the penalty corner with a low flick to the keeper’s right.

In total contrast to KS Garstang did not find their rhythm once, struggled to maintain possession in all areas, did not move the ball quick enough and were punished for it by a strong side.
