Garstang Community Academy was crowned Wyre and Fylde schools’ U16 basketball champions after defeating Hodgson in the final.

Hodgson hosted the match, which was played in excellent spirit and resulted in a 67-43 victory for the visitors.

Man of the match John Challioner scored 28 points for Garstang and Tom Alston 24.

Hodgson knew they were in for a tough encounter, having lost to Garstang in the first game of the season.

However, they earned this rematch in the final thanks to wins over Arnold, Millfield and Carinal Allen.

It was Hodgson’s first time in the final and an excellent way for outstanding trio Ellis Jolly, Luke Edwards, and Toby Beith to end their school basketball careers.

Garstang coach Gordon Kidd said: “Garstang Giants Basketball club is based at the school, so as a consequence our basketball programme is very popular. All three of our top scorers play National League level.”

The other members of the winning team were: Ellis Couch, George Briault, Tom Nayler, Tom Hawkins, Chris Dixon, Gregh Carter, Elliot Cross and George Robson.
