Garstang Hockey against Clitheroe and Blackburn Northern 2's.

On Saturday Garstang faced Cltheroe & Blackburn Northern Seconds in their next league encounter.

Clearly still rattled by the end of their last game Garstang started nervously and, uncharacteristically, kept giving the ball away.

A break in play for an injury allowed Garstang to re-group and were a lot more settled when the game was re-started.

Some nice passing moves through the midfield created good goal scoring opportunities for Garstang, who were unable to capitalise until Josie Rice

drew a foul on the edge of the D which she took quickly, catching out the

Clitheroe defence.

Rice skillfully bobbled her cross to Catherine Godbold who deftly flicked the ball over the scrambling C&BN defence into the back of the next.

Garstang’s second goal came soon after, when a high press led to a mistake from a Clitheroe defender.

The initial strike was saved by the Clitheroe keeper, but the rebound fell kindly for Godbold who smashed the ball into the bottom corner for her second.

In the second half Clitheroe came out fighting and pressed high into the Garstang half, but the defence organised themselves well and held firm.

In particular the centre duo of Lindsay Norton and Donna Richardson were exceptional and were rock solid.

Garstang created a number of good chances in the second half but were thwarted by the Cltheroe keeper, ex-Garstang player Megan Ditchfield who

kept the score down to two.
