Garstang Community Academy are celebrating after seeing two of their students finish top of the class.
Year 10 duo Jasmine Jolly and Michael Fisher represented GCA in the Lancashire School Championships, held at Stanley Park Arena, Blackpool.
The focus of the championships was to select athletes from Lancashire schools to compete in the English School Championships to be held in Birmingham on July 8-9.
The first track event of the day was at 10am with the intermediate girls’ 300m hurdles.
Jolly competed in this event, winning in a time of 43:70s and smashing the previous championship record of 45s set by Emma Holmes in 2003.
This excellent performance means that she qualified for the English School Championships for the third consecutive year as the entry standard time was 46.60s.
Fisher competed in the intermediate boys category in the 100m event and sprinted to victory in a time of 11.60s, just 0.4s short of the English Schools entry standard.
Despite becoming the Lancashire Schools champion over 100m, he still expressed his disappointment for not reaching the qualifying time this year.
A school spokesman said: “Last year Michael, along with his classmate Jasmine, represented GCA at the Championships.
“This year it will not be the same without Michael. GCA staff and students wish Jasmine all the best for the Championships in July.”
