Mixed fortunes for both teams

With the 1st XV having another gap in the fixture list the Blues took centre stage last Saturday.

The team were still smarting from their agonising 27-26 at the hands of Clitheroe 2nds the previous week and they were desperate to make amends.

A strong squad travelled to Leigh to play against their 4th XV and they made no mistake with an attacking display which saw them score seven tries and emerge as 43-19 winners.

On Sunday the Ladies XV, known as Garstang Sparlings, travelled to play Sefton in a league game in their inaugural season of competitive league rugby. Unfortunately, injuries and un-availabilities meant that only thirteen girls were available for selection and the team had to play the game two players short.

However, the girls put in an amazingly courageous performance and went into the half time break trailing by just 7-5.

In the second half the demands of playing two players short finally caught up with them but they can be proud of their efforts in a 31-10 defeat.

On Saturday the 1st XV are back in action after a two week lay off and they travel to play Littleborough in North Lancs One, KO 15:00.

On Sunday more history will be made at Hudson Park as the Sparlings play their first league game – against Southport – on home soil. Kick off is 14:00.
