Longridge Golf Club’s Mark Young experienced all the vagaries of golf when he represented Lancashire in the English County Championship finals at Michinhampton Golf Club in Gloucestershire.

In the opening match against Leicestershire & Rutland, Mark lost both his foursomes and singles games, but Lancashire won the match overall. However in the second match, Lancashire lost to close rivals Devon with Mark winning his foursomes, but losing his individual singles.

He faced the classic dilemma that even if your scoring is very good, your opponent can be better - birdies on holes were beaten by eagles and even a hole- in-one as his Devon rival won.

On a tense last day, Lancashire needed to win against Hampshire by a margin that surpassed any win by Devon. After inconclusive skirmishes in foursomes, Lancashire dominated their singles matches with five wins out of six with Mark winning his individual game by 5 & 3.

This gave Lancashire the title – their 11th County Championship – with a similar victory at Senior level anticipated at the RAC Club at Epsom, when Longridge Golf Club’s 2013 Seniors’ County Champion Jeremy Morgan will be part of the Lancashire’s team this weekend.
