Myerscough College golfers have triumphed in the inaugural collegiate ‘Ryder Cup’ against their American counterparts from Ohio State University.
The team from the States, including eight students and Ohio’s professional, Chris Walsh, have just completed a 10-day tour of the UK, which included both four-ball and singles contests between the two sides.
The action got underway at the Marriot Worsley Park Country Club in Manchester where Myerscough College and Ohio State University took to the fairways in a four-ball competition.
Myerscough College came out with a 3-1 lead at the end of the day which they took them into the singles match at Staining Golf and Country Club.
A comprehensive 7-1 win on the day gave Myerscough an overall 10-2 victory.
A replica of the real Ryder Cup was made for the event and was duly presented to Myerscough at the end of the contest.
The tour will now become an annual event, with Myerscough reciprocating with a trip to the USA next year to defend their crown.
