Running club sees fast results

At Lancaster 5K Richard Jones joined Amie McAvoy for the flat fast Saturday night race from Salt Ayre running track, the race which involves several laps of the running track and a pleasant run along the riverside was won in 15.21 with Richard running 18.25 and Amie running 22.39.

Gary Heyworth was also racing hard at the 5K’s at the Preston parkrun, he first took on the undulating 3 laps in a time of 20.38 then later in the month managed to better his time by 10 seconds.

Also in Preston and taking in several parts of the parkrun course in Avenham Park was Run Preston 10K which saw around 1200 runners racing the 6.2 miles from the centre of the City on a 2 lap route. Dave Heslop was first home for the club in 43.38 followed by tony Pritchard in 44.39 and Phil Cray in 45.32.

At the Race 2 Remember Chris Horner had an excellent result running on home turf around Nicky Nook finishing in the top 10 in 9th position in a time of 39 minutes. Chris was joined by Julie Graham who ran 51 minutes, Alan Jones 52 minutes and Julia Patefield 56 minutes. Julia was using the race 2 Remember as training for the Rivington trail half marathon the following week where she ran 2.18 Julia was joined by a number of other club members and over 350 other competitors with Darren Edmondson first home for the club in 1.36, Ben Seed in 1.41, Gary Heyworth 1.45, Zoe Edmondson 1.47 and Amy Fisher in 1.57.

At the Robin Hood half marathon in Nottingham runners were encouraged to dress up as Robin Hood to race the 13.1 miles so Mary and Emma Hewitt decided to give it a go! They both ran together finishing in 4500 position out of over 7000 runners in a time of 2.11 in what was described as a very hot race!

A little further north in her second marathon of the year, Sam Buckley ran the Loch Ness marathon, knocking around 7 minutes off her marathon time on a much hillier course she enjoyed the 26.2 mile challenge apart from the hill at 20 miles finishing in a time of 4 hours 43 minutes.

Two club runners travelled the short distance down the road for the Lea Town 10K, where Richard Jones finished 22nd in 41.12 and was joined by Frank Miller who finished 69th in 51.18

Alan Jones was out on the trails at the Coniston 15km trail race where he raced well to a time of 1 hour 32 minutes finishing in 119th position.

Running on the fells and taking on the challenge of running 60 miles, Mick Cottam took part in the Hardmoors 60. Mick did incredibly well to finish just under 15 hours in 14 hours 50 minutes.
