Two teams from Garstang Community Academy have made it through to the last 16 in the country – just one step away from the national finals.
Three teams from the school braved the weather to take part in the competition at Blackburn over the weekend.
Saturday saw the Under-13 Boys team of Owen Bendall, Daniel Williams, Ben Keay and Lewis Williams in action, they started with a tough match against Formby High School, emerging with a 4-4 draw but winning the match on countback.
The remainder of the day was smoother as they defeated Altrincham Grammar School 7-1 and then Thomas Telford School 6-2 to progress to the next round.
Sunday saw the Under-16 Girls team of Kelly Southward, Katie Dawson, Laura Swift and Hazel Dawson in action firstly defeating Deyes High School from Liverpool 6-2, then moving on to defeat Fairfield High School for girls 7-1 and join the boys in the next round.
The Under 16 Boys team finished 3rd after defeats to tough opposition in the form of Formby High School and Altrincham Grammar School. The next round takes place at Blackburn on Saturday, February 23.
In the Lancaster & Morecambe League Premier Division, the A and B teams from Garstang clashed in a local derby with the A team emerging victorious thanks to three wins from Luke McGrath and two from Kelly Southward.
The C and D teams also clashed in Division 1 this time Garstang D emerged winners with a 21-13 win over their club mates. Michael Charters was man of the match for the D team winning all three, Tommy Kennedy adding two more wins. Tom Gorst was star player for the C team hitting back with two wins, Kevin Aughton and Joe Peat added one each. In the Preston League Division 1 Garstang B emerged with a 6-4 win over Riverside C thanks to super sub Stuart Southward who amazed everyone by winning all his three matches; Adam Soar and Rebecca Hodgson added one each and were victorious in the doubles to complete the win.
In the Premier Division Garstang A emerged 7-3 winners over Astra C, Graham Coupe, Ashley Bradburn and Martin Wyatt all winning two each and all falling to defeat to Manoj Parekh.
