Garstang ladies 1sts continued their winning streak, beating Southport 1sts 5-0 in the Lancashire Women’s Hockey Association Premier Division.
Fran Summers opened the scoring for Garstang, finding the net from a tight angle to the right of the keeper.
At the half-time whistle, the Reds were disappointed with their passing and came out in the second half determined to show their fighting spirit from previous weeks.
Stronger passing around the back from the defensive players Nikki Oddie, Donna Richardson, Lindsay Norton and Vicky Bradley provided opportunities for good passes of play.
A long corner from Diane Roe, linking with Josie Rice, saw a pass into the D and a purposeful angled stick from Summers found the back of the net.
Garstang made it 3-0 after a series of short corners, which Catherine Godbold put to bed by deflecting the shot on goal from Alice Mathews into the back of the net.
Shortly after, following another short corner, Matthews linked up with Roe to complete a perfectly-rehearsed short corner and goal.
Southport’s young and energetic players linked well in the centre of the pitch, forcing pressure on the Garstang defence and Oddie stopped the ball on the line to prevent a goal.
The Reds brought the game to a close with Matthews striking at another short corner and finding the right corner.
