Garstang CC battle to bronze victory
Garstang CC tasted victory on finals day as the second XI won their bronze final against BAC/EE Preston by 53 runs.
A low-scoring game at the Riverside saw Garstang bat first as they were all out for 138 with four balls of their 40 overs left.
Skipper Allan Cook (0) fell early but fellow opener Josh McDowell and Tom Wells set about a recovery.
McDowell top-scored with 49 and Wells added 24 before falling victim to Imran Zanghar and Joe Thomas respectively.
Zanghar also picked up the wickets of Adam Ball (5) and Dave Whalley (8) on his way to figures of 3-25.
Joseph Pearson (1), Alasdair Egerton (0) and Joe Gibbins (0) were all out cheaply before the Garstang innings was given some late impetus.
Robert Heath contributed an undefeated 16 and Gregory Bishop 20, the latter dismissed by Wasim Butt who followed up his earlier wicket of Gibbins by dismissing Thomas Speake (0) to end with 3-15.
In reply, however, BAC/EE Preston struggled throughout and were dismissed for 85.
Their top score came via ‘extras’ with 24, thanks in no small part to the Garstang bowlers sending down 20 wides.
After Bishop dismissed Robert Foy (0) early on, Cook led by example with the ball.
He collected the wickets of Kit Patel (0), Robert Walmsley (7) and Zanghar (0) to end the day with 3-7.
Gibbins got in on the act by dismissing Butt (6) and Kieran Gandhi (4) as he took 2-29, while Thomas Speake’s 2-24 comprised the wickets of Nikesh Modessa (19) and Hiten Modessa (9).
Wells ran out George Thomas (1) and Bishop sent back Shyam Chauhan (2) to end with 2-4 and seal Garstang’s victory.
