The 34-year-old had been due to return to the club last year, only for the pandemic and shortened season to force a rethink.

However, he will turn out for them this year as he aims to replicate a hugely successful first season in 2019.

Bisht repaid Garstang’s decision to make him their first professional, hitting 1,600 runs in all competitions at an average of more than 53 as they challenged for the Northern Premier Cricket League title.

It is hoped he will be in the country next week with his isolation period ending in time for the first game of the season at Leyland on April 17.

Club chairman Michael Walling explained: “I’ve spoken to Punit and he’s got his visa coming.

“Because he’s from India, they aren’t on the red list for travelling so he can come over.

“He has to isolate for 10 days, so we’re trying to get the paperwork sorted out so he can come on April 7 and be available for the first game.”

Garstang also know who they will be facing in their first cup tie of the season.

Mark Walling’s players will welcome Morecambe to the Riverside on Sunday, April 25 for round one of the league’s 40-over cup competition.

The winners of that match will then host either Netherfield or Fulwood and Broughton in the second round seven days later.

Next month also sees them host Prestwich in round one of the Lancashire Cricket Foundation’s knockout competition.

Victory would then see Garstang at home again in round two, against either Ramsbottom or Formby on June 13.
