Garstang CC move into cup semi-final with weekend win
Garstang CC will meet Chorley in the semi-final of the Northern League’s 40-over cup competition following victory against Netherfield on Sunday.
Twenty-four hours after their league loss against Longridge, Mark Walling’s players were 24-run winners at the Riverside.
It was a day for the bowlers after Garstang had opted to bat first and fell from 79-2 to 138 all out.
Opener Michael Walling was their top scorer with 44 before he became the ninth man to be dismissed.
Michael Wellings had earlier made 27 and Mark Walling 17, but after the latter’s departure left Garstang 79-3, the Netherfield attack set to work.
Oli Wileman claimed 3-24, Isaac Medhurst 3-26, Lewis Richardson 2-11 and Matt Jackson 2-29.
However, Netherfield were left up against it in reply after they were reduced to 50-7.
Ian Walling claimed three of the wickets to fall as he ended with 3-22 from eight overs.
Thomas Anderton and Isaac Medhurst then staged a revival, adding 56 for the eighth wicket before the latter fell for 23.
Samuel Medhurst (4) was run out before Ben Woodruff (1-3) bowled Jackson with Anderton left 35 not out and Netherfield all out for 114.
