Whittingham and Goosnargh 100 all out

Garstang 106-1

Garstang won by nine wickets

Garstang travelled to Division One outfit Whittingham & Goosnargh in the first round of the 2013 Meyler Cup.

The home side won the toss and elected to bat, but were soon in trouble when Ian Walling bowled Hussain Yusef (8), in the first over.

Walling and Jim Procter’s double act from Saturday was repeated on the Sunday, with both picking up a couple of wickets to leave Whittingham 32-4. They were soon 56-7 with Ryan Wells, (1-15) and Ashley Whiteside, (2-26) getting in on the wickets.

J Abbas (19), S Polli (10), and M Bow(10) added some late runs, but Michael Walling (2-4), picked up the final two wickets, to leave Garstang chasing just 101.

Ian Walling (3-19), and Procter (2-28), were very well-supported by some good fielding too.

The reply was short and sweet, as Jonny Thompson and Dan Curwen were let loose in a change of batting line-up.

The duo flourished and played plenty of stylish shots before Curwen (41) fell, playing an expansive reverse sweep with just 10 runs required for victory.

Nonetheless Curtis Morris wasted little time knocking off the remaining runs and finishing the game in style with a huge six.

His 14 off six balls was the cream on top of the cake, with Thompson earning a solid 35 not out.

The chase was completed in just 16.3 overs, as Garstang progressed to the next round.
