Vaulting to new heights
Longridge St Cecilia’s High School pupil Ava McGuckian has been enjoying both vaulting and sprinting success.
The year 10 pupil competed at Sportcity in Manchester where she vaulted a new personal best of 3.11.
Due to her considerable vaulting talent and even though she is still only 14, Ava has now been moved up into the under 17 age category for competitions.
Ava has already met the pole vaulting national standard to compete in England Athletics in February, and to end the day Ava got to meet current British number one pole vaulter Holly Bradshaw, nee Bleasdale, who is from Preston.
Not content with vaulting, Ava then went on to compete in the 60m sprint, again managing another personal best of 8.11. Ava has also qualified for England athletics in this event.
Having qualified for both events, Ava and her coach now have to decide whether to concentrate on vaulting or whether to enter both.
A school spokesperson said: “Well done Ava, we’re all very proud of you and wish you luck with your next competition.”
