Palace Shield Premier Division.
Longridge 1st team 196-8, Garstang 120 all out.
Longridge beat fellow top four team Garstang by 76 runs on Saturday thanks to two stand out performances, one with the bat and one with ball.
Batting first Longridge got off to a great start thanks mainly to stand in opener Kyle Helm making 36 with Josh McDowell who scored 12 but it was the resurgent Fairclough who made the difference holding the innings together with a brilliant unbeaten 89 with the only other notable contribution coming from Danny Wilkinson (26) as Longridge made it to a very competitive total of 196-8.
Longridge knew that they were going to have to work hard to win the game and they couldn’t of got off to a better start with Ian Simpson clean bowling three batsmen in the very first over.
Simpson never relented and he had completed his five wicket haul, including that of the dangerous Walling, before anyone else from Longridge could take a wicket and that came through the spin of Howarth.
By this time the game was really over as a competitive match but resistance did come from the number eight batsman who finished unbeaten on 37 but it was nothing more than a token gesture as Longridge wrapped up victory with another wicket for Simpson, to give him figures of six for 21 off ten overs, and then three for McDowell who finished the tail off.
Victory took Longridge into second place with a trip next week to Great Eccleston.
Victory could give Longridge the title if there is a slip up next week by the league leaders.
