Saint Aidan’s retained their cricket school champions title after storming to victory over AKS High School.
The Year 8 squad, captained by Lancashire cricket player Josh Sackfield took the league with three wickets to spare
Team coach Mr Macleod said: “After another good season not losing a game in the group stage the question was could we repeat the success of year 7.
“All the boys stood up to the challenge and probably played our best cricket of the season in the final.
“AKS are a good team and I must admit there were times when I thought the game had got away from us.
“But full credit to the boys they performed magnificently and deserved the win.
“It goes without saying that the department are immensely proud of their success and hopefully we can do the same next year, well done to all the boys involved”
Saint Aidan’s struck early with a wicket in two balls by Ryan Danson.
“Danson was on form as shortly after he took another wicket. Ben Gothard, Vice Captain, soon came into the action with a run out off his bowling.
“Will Major and Jamie Rossall slowed the run rate down, whilst captain Josh claimed a wickets with a brilliant catch off his own bowling. AKS finished on 85-8 from 18 overs.
When it was Saint Aidan’s turn to bat, they began well seeing off the first two overs without conceding a wicket.
“The runs slowly tallied up and Saint Aidan’s reached 86-7, leading them to, once again, be victorious by three wickets.
Notable performances were see by Josh Sackfield, who scored 23 not out. Man of the match, however, went to Jamie Rossall for his 15 runs, not out.
