Gaming review: Gioteck EX-06 Wireless Headset

Opening up the box I was surprised to see that the Gioteck EX-06 Wireless Headset comes in a stylish felt carry case in Giotecks trademark black and red which held the entire contents of the box. Inside is an RCA (Black and red audio plugs) cable, the USB wireless transmitter, A phono cable (AUX), the detachable mouthpiece and the headset itself folded up. It’s everything you will need to connect this to your consoles and I say consoles because the EX-06 is multi-format including the new PlayStation 4. For those with an Xbox One, the Gioteck EX-06 Wireless Headset isn’t really compatible out of the box as the Xbox One only has an optical out port; however I was able to overcome this problem with an optical to RCA converter you can buy from Amazon or EBay for less than £15. The ear pieces have the volume buttons on the bottom of one ear and chat volume buttons on the other.

Now the headset itself looks extremely cool with Giotecks native colours all over the headset and coated with a rubber coating making the Gioteck EX-06 Wireless Headset very durable and expensive feeling. It’s very lightweight too which surprised me and the cushioned speakers fit snugly around the ears keeping every sound locked in tight. The mouthpiece can be attached either side however it isn’t as flexible as it should be and it sticks out miles away from your face making your speech sound slightly faint. Now the cabling and the wireless transmitter is where many people may have problems as the manual doesn’t explain setup very well. Basically, the transmitter needs to be inserted into a free USB port purely for power, the RCA cable needs to be plugged into the RCA audio ports in the back of your TV which can be left in as the RCA plugs of the headset also have ports on its so it acts as more of a signal hijack rather than cancelling out any sound from your TV. The other end of the RCA cable has to be plugged into the wireless transmitter so it can feed it to the headset. That’s it, although it’s a lot more wires than I wished for.

The problems start here, no matter which system I tried it on or which game I tried it on, there was a distracting delay on the sound. This may not be an issue for some but the delay ruined my gaming experience altogether as did using the Gioteck EX-06 Wireless Headset’s microphone, my friends kept telling me that I was too quiet which had to be thanks to how far away from my face the microphone actually was which couldn’t be adjusted. These problems affect the very purpose of the headset which means they are pretty devastating, even more so because it is a Gioteck product and that I expected better. If you can overlook the delay, the sound quality was superb, the base was nice and meaty and every sound could be heard clearly.

Giotecks latest headset certain looks stylish and feels very well built but it doesn’t live up to Giotecks high standard performance capabilities thanks to the stand out delay in sound which I can only blame on the transfer rate of the transmitter and also the semi-flexible, unnecessarily long microphone which makes your voice quieter than it should be. My first Wireless headset experience wasn’t a good one I’m afraid and for the time being I will be sticking with wired ones.
