Tiger Heart burns bright for girl band

Ellen Gallagher, 19, is far too young to get references to Tiger Feet, released by English glam rockers Mud in 1974.

It’s even a bit of a stretch for her band’s new mate Peter Andre - born the year before.

Ellen is currently the limping member of Tiger Heart, the high energy girls’ band which took London’s O2 by storm this week in support of Andre’s sell out Come Swing With Me tour.

Not one member of the 9,800 strong audience realise Ellen should have done the entire set - sat down. Her crutches were left at the side of the stage as she strode out to join band mates Helen McGregor , 21, and Tia-Rose Scott, 19.

Ellen’s busted her knee, a legacy of an earlier dance injury, and is waiting on an MRI scan result to determine what comes next. “I’m not supposed to put any weight on it but nothing would keep me off that stage.”

You can’t blame her. Resort-based up and coming girl band Tiger Heart are rapidly winning their own following since being brought together by Blackpool based Piper Music Management.

They have played two switch-Ons, landed a top spot on the Blackpool IFest celebrations alongside The Vamps, Professor Green and Lawson, and have just come off tour with Andre.

The former foursome have scaled down to a trio and the “dynamic couldn’t be better”, says Ellen. “We’ve all just clicked.” Two of the girls are Lancastrians, in the old county palatine sense (Wigan and Bury for Ellen and Tia-Rose respectively). Helen’s from Huddersfield. Their infectious brand of party pop gets audiences on their feet and social media buzzing with calls for an album. The harmonies are cool and catchy and the tour now leaves them well placed to headline big venues in their own right. Management hint that great things are in the offing later this year. Meantime there’s a school tour and Ellen has to crack on with her university course work.

The three spend much of their time here when not on the road, and will play Blackpool Pride on June 13. “Playing the Lights was incredible last year ,” says Ellen, “and the O2 was a dream come true. I don’t get nervous. I’ve got my two best friends with me.” The girls tweet @WeAreTigerHeart
