Best selling author Joanne Harris, who wrote Chocolat, is gearing up to cross county boundaries.

The Yorkshire writer will be heading from her home in Huddersfield to Garstang in order to learn more about the FIG Tree Fairtrade Centre and sign copies of her latest books.

Joanne, who is a FIG Tree patron and keen advocate for Fairtrade, especially when it comes to chocolate, said: “I’ve been supporting them from afar and now I’ve got the opportunity to go and see the centre and I’m really looking forward to it. It’s a very interesting project they’ve got going.

“I’ve been involved with Fairtrade for some time and I think it’s a good idea to look at where your food comes from and pay a fair price to the producer.”

She said many cocoa growers could not afford to even taste chocolate.

Joanne and cookery expert Fran Warde have again teamed up to create a chocolate lover’s treasure trove, a book of recipes entitled “The Little Book of Chocolat.” It has been published to mark the 15th year since the publication of Chocolat which was made into a popular film .

l Joanne will be at the Fig Tree on Sunday, April 27, and will be book signing between 11.30am and noon. At 2pm she will give a talk about her writing life at a special event at the Crofters Hotel, Cabus. Tickets, costing £10 for adults and £5 for children, are available from the FIG Tree and Crofters.
