A Wyre church celebrated a remarkable milestone this week.
Sunday saw an enthusiastic congregation turn out to celebrate two centuries of devotion and determination to spread the Gospel message in Pilling.
The Methodist church regulars were joined by members of other denominations for a special service marking the anniversary,
Bad weather meant that initial plans for a walk from the current church on Smallwood Hey(built in 1894), to the site of the original Methodist chapel by Chapel House on Wheel Lane had to be somewhat curtailed, with a smaller group walking up for the unveiling of a commemorative plaque.
The main service was then held in the church where there is also an ongoing exhibition charting the local church’s work and role.
Celebration organiser Graham Curwen said: “The celebrations went extremely well. We had over 100 people in attendance and there were representatives of a variety of denominations and churches.”
A celebratory booklet has been produced to mark the bi-centenary, entitled Built On These Stones which is available for £2.50 from Graham Curwen on 07951 130465 or Andrew Bell on 01253 790649. There are also commemorative glasses tumblers for sale at £4.00.
