Dog rescued by coastguard after falling down embankment into mud gully on River Wyre in Thornton
The collie fell down an embankment behind the Vitrex site in Thornton this morning (February 4) before becoming trapped in a muddy stretch of the river.
The Fleetwood Coastguard team were mobilised to help rescue the distressed dog, with the help of colleagues from Knott End and Morecambe.

Hide AdWhen the rescue team arrived at the scene, the collie was found trapped up to its waist in thick, wet mud.
After freeing the mud-caked dog, the collie was checked for injuries before being reunited with its grateful owner.
A spokesman for HM Coastguard Fleetwood said: "Today the team rescued a 14-year-old collie who had fallen down the embankment behind Vitrex on the River Wyre.
"She was OK, but stuck in a mud gully, so ourselves and Knott-End & Morecambe Coastguard Rescue Team deployed mud techs to go and get her.

Hide Ad"Ourselves and our flank team Knott-End Coastguard Rescue Team responded to the yelp of help and quickly made their way to the scene.
"Coastguard Rescue Officers quickly donned dry suits and our special ‘mudders’ walking shoes and walked out to assist the now tired and cold doggy.
"Thankfully she wasn't too scared so was thankful for our help.
"Great result for all concerned followed by a big wash down and clean up at the station."
